This week, Swiss Coding Academy held a special online livestream on the perspectives and future growth of IT education in Vietnam and the wider ASEAN region. The session was delivered in English and led by our keynote speaker, Sergey Shedov, founder of programming.school. The event became an important step in our mission to build a strong, well-informed tech education community around Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
The livestream was designed not as a one-way lecture, but as a practical, forward-looking conversation about where the region is heading and how learners, educators, and employers can prepare. It connected our research work in Vietnam with broader regional trends in IT and digital skills.
During the livestream, Sergey shared valuable insights on:
- How the demand for digital skills is evolving across Southeast Asia and why Vietnam is becoming one of the region’s fastest-growing tech hubs. He highlighted how the combination of a young population, rapid digitalization, and strong government support for technology is changing the job market.
- The rise of data, AI, and cloud professions and how global companies are reshaping their hiring priorities. Sergey explained why roles in data analytics, machine learning, DevOps, and cloud engineering are expanding faster than traditional IT positions.
- Why practical, project-based learning is becoming a new standard for IT education worldwide. Using examples from programming.school and other initiatives, he showed how employers increasingly value portfolios, real projects, and teamwork experience over purely theoretical knowledge.
- What skills will define the next generation of IT specialists in ASEAN markets – from solid programming fundamentals and data literacy to communication, product thinking, and the ability to work across cultures and remote teams.
- How young professionals and career switchers can prepare today for jobs that will dominate the next 5–10 years. Sergey outlined concrete steps: choosing a focus area, building a portfolio through real projects, seeking mentorship, and learning continuously rather than relying on a single degree.
The livestream was designed for:
- students and young professionals exploring tech career paths and looking for clarity on where to start;
- career switchers who want to enter IT but don’t know which skills to prioritize;
- educators and training managers interested in the future of digital upskilling and how to adapt their programs;
- employers and HR leaders, who are updating their hiring and training strategies for a rapidly changing talent landscape.
After the main talk, participants had the opportunity to ask questions about specific career paths, reskilling strategies, and how Swiss Coding Academy’s programs in Vietnam are being shaped by these trends. Many questions focused on data and AI roles, confirming strong interest in these areas among Vietnamese learners.
Thank you to everyone who joined us live!
We will continue organizing open sessions like this to keep building a strong, informed tech community in Vietnam and beyond, and to share what we are learning from the market as we develop our programs.
If you missed the event, stay tuned — we will share more highlights, recordings, and upcoming sessions soon. 🚀
